Surgical Tooth Extraction

Surgical tooth extraction is a dental procedure designed to remove a tooth that cannot be easily extracted using conventional methods. There are various reasons why this procedure may be necessary, such as when a tooth is impacted, severely decayed, damaged, or causing complications like overcrowding or infection in the mouth.

During the surgical tooth extraction, the area surrounding the affected tooth is numbed using local anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort. In certain cases, sedation may also be administered to help the patient relax throughout the procedure.

The dentist or oral surgeon carefully makes an incision in the gum tissue to access the tooth and underlying bone. Depending on the situation, the tooth may need to be sectioned into smaller pieces for easier removal. Once the tooth is extracted, any necessary sutures are placed to promote proper healing of the surgical site.

• Impacted Teeth: When teeth are partially or fully covered by gum tissue or bone, a surgical extraction is needed to expose and remove them.
• Severely Damaged Teeth: Teeth that are extensively broken, damaged, or decayed beyond repair may require surgical extraction.
• Overcrowding: In cases where there is insufficient space for all teeth to properly align or for orthodontic treatment, teeth may need to be surgically extracted to create the necessary space.
• Infection: If a tooth is severely infected and cannot be effectively treated with antibiotics or root canal therapy, surgical extraction may be necessary to prevent the infection from spreading.
